I have recently installed mandriva linux with a DVD disk on my dual boot system, everything went good, exept for 3 things. Sound, modem and mouse, the most important thing is the mouse as i hate using shortcuts the whole time so i first want to solve this. I have this logitech mouse, it works 100% on windows but on linux, it just shows up but i am not able to move it. I tried to get a linux driver for this mouse but i couldnt find it. What i am asking for is could anyone help me with this problem??? Else i would have to get back to windows and thats not what i want:(.
Thanks in advance. Mouse: is it really a serial mouse? I found a Logitech Mouse-Driver for serial mice listed in the driver-selection list (mysteriously it is located under PS/2) did your mouse work during installation? I am a total newbie in linux, i literally dont understand anything in linux, i have heard its lighter on my pc and its better in security terms (as i had alot of problems with viruses). So i didnt understand 90% of what have written, the mouse worked perfectly while installing and it works on windows, but in linux it doesnt even list a mouse in the hardware section.
As for the modem its a 'Askey Ale 130' modem (mostly used in israel) i have found a guide of how to install it but it wont work as it from the beginning. In the guide i have to open a.tar file from my floppy disk with the konsole, i write this:- tar -xjvf tar_name tar_name is the name of the file, and the name of my file is 'eciadsl-usermode-cvs.tar.bz2' i tried this way (while having the file on my floppy disk) and it didnt work, i wrote the name without the.tar.bz2 and it didnt work and all kinds of combinations.but it wont work. As for the sound card, i have a sound blaster 16 sound card (very old) and the system doesnt recognize it. My biggest problem is the mouse, sound isnt important for now ill fix it after this mouse. Thanx for the answer, i hope you can help me more, or maybe explain me more as i didnt understand how u did this whole thing. *look noobie* edit: the mouse problem is solved, just didnt know about how to configure what mouse i have, i figured out how and it works now:D about the modem, everything is ready, but when i try to extract a.tar file into the /etc/eciadsl directory it wont let me and i get the message 'you dont have the rights to right in this folder' how do i become able to do so???
And about the sound card, still having problems with it. Edited July 26, 2006 by I3lind5pot. Is the sound card isa or pci? Toony Over The Top Reloaded Uploaded Premium on this page.
